Willie Joe Hasty, Jr., 76, of Roanoke Rapids, died Saturday, November 14, 2009, at UNC-Chapel Hill. Joe, a native of Roanoke Rapids, was the son of the late Willie Joe Hasty, Sr. and Geneva Hasty. Joe was a veteran of the United States Army and was retired as a bank examiner with the FDIC. Joe was a long time member of Rosemary United Methodist Church.

Joe is survived by his wife of 56 years, Sue McElroy Hasty; his son, Dennis Hasty and his wife, Bobbie, of Roanoke Rapids; one sister, Janie H. Small of Roanoke Rapids; one grandson, Josh Hasty and his wife, Brandi, of Greenville; and his niece, Faye Lail of Roanoke Rapids.

The family will receive friends Monday, November 16, from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. at Askew Funeral and Cremation Services in Roanoke Rapids.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, November 17, at 2:00 p.m. at Rosemary United Methodist Church in Roanoke Rapids with Rev Jim Bell officiating. Interment will follow at Cedarwood Cemetery in Roanoke Rapids.

The flag in front of the funeral home flies at half-staff in honor of Mr. Hasty’s service to his country.
